Biography
1) Robert Frost was born on March 26, 1874 in San Francisco, California, United States.
2) Robert's father died, then Robert, his sister, and his mother went to New England for the burial. They did not have enough money to return to California, so they stayed in Salem, Massachusetts and his mother taught school there.
3) Robert graduated Lawrence High School as valedictorian and class poet in 1892.
4) He started chicken farming with a daughter and a son. His son died, He nearly died of pneumonia, and his fourth daughter died as well. He then turned to poetry and tried teaching in Derry and Plymouth New Hampshire.
5) Frost began to write and Ezra Pound helped to publish his poems in periodicals. Frost did not like Pound's extreme management.
6) Frost's work, North of Boston, brought him sudden popularity (he had always been shy). He responded for lectures and readings for financial need.
7) He visited England and Paris and published Collected Poems in 1928.
8) Frost was forced to spend his winters in Florida due to weak lungs.
9) Frost recited "The Gift Outright" at John F. Kennedy's inauguration in 1961. This marked the first time a poet was honored at an inauguration.
